5 Things to Know About 鈥 Eric Bieniemy, who the Dolphins interviewed for their head-coaching position.
1) Bieniemy has spent the past six seasons as an assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, including serving as offensive coordinator in 2018.
2) With Bieniemy as offensive coordinator, the 2018 Chiefs led the NFL in points per game, yards per game, yards per play, and passing yards per play. Kansas City's average of 35.3 points per game was the sixth-highest in NFL history and the highest since the 2013 Denver Broncos averaged 37.9.
3) After beginning his coaching career at his alma mater, the University of Colorado, Bieniemy moved on to UCLA before coming to the NFL as a coach in 2006 as running backs coach of the Minnesota Vikings. Under Bieniemy's tutelage, Chester Taylor rushed for 1,216 yards in 2006鈥攖he next-highest total of his 10-year career was 844 yards in 2007 when he shared ball-carrying duties with rookie Adrian Peterson. In his first four NFL seasons under Bieniemy's tutelage, Adrian Peterson averaged 1,445 yards.
4) After finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1990 behind winner Ty Detmer of BYU and Raghib "Rocket" Ismail of Notre Dame, Bieniemy had a nine-year NFL career as a running back with the Chargers, Bengals and Eagles. He appeared in Super Bowl XXIX with the Chargers, carrying the ball one time for 3 yards and catching one pass for 33 yards in a 49-26 loss against the San Francisco 49ers.
