Sanders Named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – аÄÃÅÁùºÏ¸ßÊÖÂÛ̳ kicker Jason Sanders has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday's game against San Francisco, the NFL announced Tuesday.

It is the sixth AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor of his career and Miami's first AFC Special Teams Player of the Week nod since Sanders earned the award against Dallas in Week 16 of the 2023 season. The award is Sanders's second recognition this season, having earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors for his performance in November.

The nod marks Miami's third Player of the Week award this season with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week against New England in Week 12 and defensive tackle Zach Sieler notching AFC Defensive Player of the Week against the N.Y. Jets in Week 14.

Sanders had one of the best outings of his career in Miami's 29-17 win over San Francisco, converting each of his five field goal attempts, including a 54-yarder, and adding two extra points to finish the day with 17 points. Sanders not only tied the total points scored by the 49ers in Sunday's games, but single-handedly outscored five teams in Week 16 and tied two others.

It was his fifth career game converting five field goal attempts, which is three more than any other player in Dolphins history. He now has made 23 field goals in a row, the longest active streak in the NFL and the longest in franchise history.

Sanders has had 11 field goals from 50 yards or longer this year, which is the fourth-most in the NFL this season and a single-season franchise record. He has made eight consecutive field goals from 50-plus yards, which is tied for the longest active streak in the NFL and ranks second in Dolphins history behind Sanders's own record of 10-straight kicks of 50-plus yards from 2019-20.

Sanders, who is one of two players in the NFL this year to kick a field goal in every game alongside Dallas' Brandon Aubrey, has made 33-of-37 field goals attempts (89.2%) this season along with 22-of-24 extra points (91.7%). He is the Dolphins all-time leader in field goal percentage and ranks third in points scored with 810. His 33 field goals made this year are the third most in a single season in franchise history.
