Head Coach Brian Flores spoke to the media before practice at the Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University on Thursday. Here were some comments that stood out, along with some perspective:
"You have to plan for the worst, I would say. If we don't have them, the next set of receivers have to step up and be ready to play."
鈥 Wide receivers DeVante Parker and Albert Wilson remain in the concussion protocol and the Dolphins likely won't know until the end of the week whether either will be available against the Giants on Sunday. That could mean expanded roles for players like Isaiah Ford and newcomers Mack Hollins and Trevor Davis, though Flores says he's confident聽in all his receivers.
"He brings a lot of energy on a day-to-day basis. He's been for three weeks and it feels like he's been here all year."
鈥 Safety Adrian Colbert has only been with the Dolphins for a few weeks, but he has worked his way into the starting lineup. Beyond his physical attributes, Flores likes the intangibles that Colbert brings, most notably his leadership and enthusiasm.
"He's shown leadership throughout the time that I've been here. This is a guy who is very genuine and caring about giving back. He's a good human being."
鈥 Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was announced Thursday as the Dolphins' nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, and Flores said it was a deserving nod for a player who continues to make an impact both on and off the field.
"He's a guy who's taken a leadership position. He's really starting to come into his own. Played some solid football for us at times. Guys feed off his energy and he's really worked hard."
鈥 Linebacker Raekwon McMillan has taken a big step in his third season in the NFL, at times standing out as one of the top performers on the Dolphins defense. That emergence maybe has played a role in McMillan becoming more vocal on the sideline during games.
