An unregistered builder has been convicted and fined $2,400 in the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court after he failed to meet his duties under ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵn building laws.
Consumer Affairs ÌÒÉ«ÊÓƵ took action against James Owen Reid, 32, of Kallista, an officer of landscaping company Surface & Leaf Pty Ltd, in relation to two properties in Wantirna South. The court found that Mr Reid:
- entered into major domestic building contracts while unregistered as a builder
- entered into contracts that did not meet legal requirements
- accepted excessive deposits
- failed to supply all of the agreed work at the two properties, as well as another in Northcote.
